Star Trek. A Shining Vision Of The Future?

Star Trek is a franchise that spans generations. Loved by millions of people around the world there have been 5 Series' with 7 or so Seasons each, and 11 films with Star Trek 12 due to be released in 2012.

The reason I am writing about Star Trek today is firstly, I am a geek and love any excuse to geek out and secondly that we have to start thinking about our future, and Star Trek shows us what we could be, maybe not exploring deep space, but being a United Earth. During First Contact Earth had just finished the 3rd World War. It had obliterated most of the planet and afterwards the human race realised that we could not continue like this if we needed to progress.

Take the bridge of the first Enterprise. (USS Enterprise NCC-1701) you had a black woman, a russian and chinese man with Americans and Scottish men. It was the first show that had shown many different countries, together on one ship, united in a common goal. Exploring.

It is what drives our nature, we are a naturally curious species and the persuit of knowledge is that factor that will eventually bring us together.

There was no currency, everything was in abundance because of the invention of certain technologies, we can progress like the Star Trek world, resources can no longer be a problem, we can expand into space and form ties with (if they exist) other lifeforms.

The human race can take a lesson from Star Trek, and it is that lesson that unites the fans, we are the optimistic side of the human race. We look to the future and not the past, we human beings need to forgive and forget for past sins, and look to a brighter future for all.

There was one thing wrong with the latest Star Trek film, and it is the one weakness of the human race, there was product placement, something that has never happened before, because there are no companies in Star Trek. Just the United Federation Of Planets. Replicators are free and they produce everything that the human race needs, our first hurdle, is getting rid of our greed, and then we can unite in our drive to explore.

Thanks for reading,
